Fun Fact
In 1748, the colonial charters gave New York ownership control of all the waterfront on both sides of the river and therefore received all rent and taxes from the ferry operators. Naturally, Brooklynites disagreed with this arrangement and an angry mob burned the Brooklyn ferry house to the ground.

The play areas will include a “swing valley” built along the southern edge of the pier featuring long rope swings, a “slide mountain” with two-story high slides that empty into a large sand box with stone animals , a water-play area, climbing structure, and a “boulder mountain.”

Pier 6 cafe renderingA 30’ wide promenade leading onto Pier 6 features views of lower Manhattan and New York Harbor. A park concession building with a  1000-square-foot restaurant and roof top deck, three sand volleyball courts, and a dog run will also be constructed.
