Fun Fact
The East River is not a river, and its name did not come from its location east of Manhattan. Technically, it is a tidal strait, a channel connecting two seawater bodies, Upper New York Bay and Long Island Sound. The name came because American colonists used it to travel east.

Main Street Lot

Main Street PlaygroundBrooklyn Bridge Park is often referred to as the "Main Street Lot" because it used to be a parking lot! The city now manages this park area and playground.

Hours: The Park is officially open according to posted hours.

Facilities: Playground, No public restrooms.

Restrictions: City rules: NO ALCOHOL, NO SWIMMING.  NO PETS are allowed in the playground. PETS ALLOWED in the park; they must be leashed and you must clean up after your pet.

Permitting: All events require a city permit ($25 permit fee).
